Born in London in 1934, Martin Leman began his artistic journey at Worthing Art School and continued his studies at the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London. Following a successful career in advertising and publishing, he taught at Hornsey College of Art for twenty years. The release of his first book, Comic & Curious Cats, marked a shift in his focus towards painting, leading to numerous solo exhibitions in London and St Ives.

With 26 books published, Martin’s work has earned international acclaim and is held in private collections worldwide. His paintings are frequently selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and his inspirations range from the coastal beauty of Cornwall to formal gardens and, of course, cats. Martin continues to live, paint, and tend to his garden in Islington, where these themes come to life in his celebrated works.
