Born in America and raised in Essex, Jill Leman studied art at Colchester School of Art under the tutelage of John Nash and Edward Bawden before advancing to the Central School of Art to focus on graphic design. She initially pursued a career in publishing but returned to her true passion, painting, in 1996.

Jill’s work centers on domestic themes, with a particular focus on flowers and still lifes, though she occasionally incorporates cats and architectural elements. Working primarily in watercolor and acrylic, Jill has developed a distinctive, gentle style that celebrates the colors and patterns of nature. Her use of vibrant, inviting colors creates a sense of intimacy and charm in each piece.

Since resuming her painting practice, Jill has become a respected member of the art community. She was elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 2009 and the Royal Society of British Artists in 2011. Her work has been showcased in prominent exhibitions across the UK, including the RA Summer Exhibition. In 2017, Jill was honored to become the first female President of the Royal Watercolour Society, where she has brought fresh perspectives and a modern approach to the role, helping expand the society’s reach and membership.
