Born Wolverhampton. Studied at St. Martin’s College of Art where he was a student of the renowned printmaker Norman Ackroyd. After completing a postgraduate course at the Central School of Art in 1991, Hicklin combined working as Ackroyd’s studio assistant and editioner with producing his own work. 1993 Hicklin was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE), and he has had numerous solo and joint exhibitions including exhibiting regularly at Eames Fine Art, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the London Contemporary Art Fair. He has also taken part in touring exhibitions in France and Barcelona. He has been awarded the Hunting Art Prize at the Royal College of Art and the Julian Trevelyan RE Memorial Prize at the National Printmaking Exhibition in 1997. Most recently, Hicklin was awarded the Clifford Chance LLP Acquisition Prize at the Original Print Show at the Bankside Gallery. Hicklin is Head of Printmaking at City & Guilds of London Art School and has a studio in Shropshire
