Born Dartford, Kent. Prominent painter, sculptor, draughtsman, and printmaker. He is known as one of the leading figures of British Pop Art. Co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles’ album Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Covers for two of The Who’s albums, the cover of the Band Aid single and the Live Aid concert poster. Studied Graves End Technical College 1949-51, Royal College of Art. Knighted 2002.
