Graham Short is a micro-artist, living and working in Birmingham. Known as “The Hands of Genius” for his miniature masterpieces.
He has spent over 50 years going to physical and mental extremes to produce the highest-quality hand engravings ever seen.
Working at midnight to avoid vibration from passing traffic, his right arm is strapped to the bench, allowing only his fingertips to move.
Every few months botox injections are administered around his eyes to keep the muscles and nerves rigid.
He takes tablets throughout the night to lower his heart-rate to 20 beats per minute – then using a stethoscope he monitors his heart and begins to engrave with very fine custom needles – between heartbeats!
His extreme way of working never ceases to amaze people! He is an obsessive – a one-off.
Hand engraved spec of gold held in the eye of a needle is the worlds smallest portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The needle holding the engraving is presented in a bespoke handmade observatory box with microscope to be able to view the work.
