Born Leytonstone, London. Coker is a realist painter, printmaker, writer, and teacher who studied at the Royal College of Art and St Martin’s School of Art and later went on to teach there.

In 1973 he achieved fame for his exhibits in the major Royal Academy exhibition, ‘Paintings and Drawings of the Butcher’s Shop’.
